Student and Graduate Opportunities

Summer is an exciting and busy time for Syngenta Crop Protection Canada and Syngenta Seeds.  Each growing season, we hire a large number of students from across the country for four to eight month work terms, upon completion of final exams, to help with our small and large scale research trials or provide additional field and grower support for our sales force.  In fact, many of our full time employees started their career with Syngenta as a summer student! Summer interns attend formal training sessions with their fellow new hires to ensure they are equipped with the tools and resources needed for their day-to-day responsibilities. Team building activities take place throughout the summer and managers are supportive and committed to providing a valuable learning experience for our students. A survey is conducted at the end of each season so we can constantly improve the summer work term experience.

Here are a few quotes from recent summer students:
“I love the responsibility that my supervisor gave me, it made each task I did with my team our own”
“Syngenta treats their employees with respect, and offers work that provides a feeling of accomplishment.”
“Not only is it well paid work, but employees (especially students) get to learn loads of practical knowledge which helps both in school classes and any related jobs in the future.”
“Syngenta gives lots of options and opportunities for students as well as a clear idea and appropriate training at the beginning of the work term. They also have awesome people leading the summer students!!”
“Syngenta takes care of its employees – they provide very good, organized safety training making things a lot simpler on the job. They treat employees very well and show appreciation with perks such as meals, golf tournament, free clothing, etc. They make the summer work term enjoyable and memorable!!!!”

Exploring a career in sales or marketing? Several of our summer positions involve working closely with one or more of our Territory Managers by providing support to growers and retailers, travelling to the field to investigate product issues and inquiries and coordinating field trials. Prefer an office environment? You could spend the summer in our Customer Resource Centre in Calgary providing technical advice on Crop Protection products, programs and service offerings over the phone to customers right across Canada.

Is a potential career in research more appealing to you? Work with our field biologists or breeders conducting small-plot research programs and get involved in preparation of research materials, plot layout, application of compounds, record keeping, data collection, and analysis of results. What about a combination of both? Some of our summer interns work with customers to implement large scale Field Research Permits, locate sites for product demonstrations, coordinate signage for those sites and conduct field tours. They will also follow up on customer use patterns, inspect fields and investigate product performance inquiries as well as call on prospective growers and retail partners to develop markets for Syngenta products.

No matter what your interests are, what program you’re studying or what year you’re in at University, consider a summer role with Syngenta! Check back for postings in October and watch for us during fall career fairs and on campuses in Canada to find out more about potential summer opportunities.
