Scientific Symposia and Public Dialogue

Sound scientific discussion is important for the future success of agriculture and the health of Canadians. Syngenta partners with science and grower associations to keep the dialogue on sustainable agriculture flowing.


Canada's Outdoor Farm Show: An outdoor agricultural showcase highlighting the most innovative and technologically advanced agricultural products and services available. In 2009, Syngenta launched a permanent dome at the site, which serves as our largest plot demonstration site.

The International Year of Chemistry 2011 (CIC)
In 2011, the scientific community around the globe celebrated the International Year of Chemistry (IYC), recognizing the achievements of chemistry and its contribution to the wellbeing of human kind. Themed of ‘Chemistry - our life, our future’, organizations around the world, including the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC), engaged in greater public outreach to build interest in chemistry among young people and showcase the many contributions of chemistry in our daily life. Syngenta sponsored IYC events organized by the CIC and our employees volunteered many hours to support these events. Two Syngenta chemists currently serve as the Chair and Secretary of the Toronto chapter of CIC.

International Federation of Agricultural Journalists 2011 Congress
The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists Congress brought 300 journalists from 30 countries to Ontario to learn about agriculture in 2011. Syngenta was the Development and Platinum sponsor of the event. To honour the event and acknowledge our strong connection to feeding a growing population, Syngenta made a donation on behalf of the delegates to the World Food Programme’s famine relief efforts in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

4-H Symposium on Science
In 2011, Syngenta was the catalyst behind the Symposium on Science hosted as part of the National 4-H Conference, which allowed 100 4-H youth ages 16-24 to realize career opportunities beyond farming. Syngenta scientists were on the steering committee and attended the event.
