Syngenta is one of the world's leading companies with more than 27,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to our purpose: Bringing plant potential to life. Through world-class science, global reach and commitment to our customers we help to increase crop productivity, protect the environment and improve health and quality of life.
Our name has two distinct roots:
- "Syn-" stems from Greek. It reflects synergy and synthesis, integration and consolidating strengths.
- "-genta" relates to humanity and individuals. It stems from the Latin "gens," for people or community.
So, Syngenta means "bringing people together”.
Syngenta was formed in 2000 through the agribusinesses of Novartis and AstraZeneca. Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, Syngenta became the first global stand-alone agriculture company.
With products in seeds and crop protection, Syngenta is helping growers worldwide raise the quantity and quality of their crops.
