Production and Supply 

In India, the Crop protection products manufacturing site at Santa Monica, Goa, produces many of the Active Ingredients and formulations for India as well as global supply.

The Crop Protection Products range comprises: - Insecticides for control of pests affecting food and cash crops, Fungicides against pest diseases and Herbicides for weed control, particularly in food crops.

The site accords the topmost priority to producing environmentally safe products, with due consideration given to matters concerning toxicology, eco-toxicology and waste disposal. The effluent treatment plant and processes are comparable to the best in the world and set a record for excellence in India. The safety of our employees as well as of the community is a matter of paramount importance, with the safety records matching the international standards. The recent milestone achieved of completing 3 million man-hours of safe working without a loss time accident reflects our commitment for a safe living and working environment for our people. 

Finished goods are produced locally at an additional two formulation and pack facilities in India. These facilities enable us to quickly introduce new products, and to sell our range competitively in local markets by reducing costs in production and supply.

In 2008, we began working to strengthen our relationship with a number of strategic crop protection suppliers. We offer support with technical advice and guidance on the management of health, safety and environment (HSE). Our crop protection procurement awards recognize suppliers that have delivered outstanding performance and reliability, and responded quickly to our needs

Seeds Processing Facilities 

The new seeds processing plants established at three locations, in 2008, have created capabilities that were hereto not available in India. As the crop yield depends greatly on the germination stage and purity of the seeds, the processing plants ensure a quality that is equivalent to global standards in terms of purity & yield. At Ranebennur, A.P., the plant can handle around 4000 MT of Sunflower and other field crop seeds while the plant at Hyderabad handles Corn & other field crop seeds and has an exclusive corn drier that helps in enhancing the longevity of the seeds.

We are working with the Fair Labor Association to develop a methodology to monitor and improve labor standards on seed farms in three key regions of India. This covers a wide range of issues, including awareness of our Code of Conduct, health and safety, pay and benefits and child labor. We audited 2,300 seed farms in 2008 and plan to monitor all seed suppliers in these regions by the end of 2009
