Syngenta in the UK

The UK is a significant agricultural market for both crop protection products and seeds.

The UK is one of our largest employee bases, with over 1500 people working at our six locations. Some of our most important work is carried out in the UK.

A rich history

Syngenta was formed in 2000 by the merger of Novartis and Astra-Zeneca's agribusinesses. Whilst we may be a relatively young company, we are proud of our rich scientific heritage.

Our work in the UK began with the opening of Jealott’s Hill in 1928. The site was the agricultural research station for the newly-formed Imperial Chemical Industries, or ICI.

But our company’s roots stretch back beyond ICI, to chemical companies such as Geigy, Sandoz, and Ciba. We have over 250 years of world-changing scientific breakthroughs behind us.
