This annual event, organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is a must for anyone interested in discovering how farmers produce our food and the ways they care for the countryside.
On 12th June this year, Syngenta supported over 15 British farms both in person and through support materials, such as posters and resources. Syngenta staff helped to run activities and talks based on agriculture and the environment at many of the farms. "We are proud to play our part in supporting food producers and in showing the public the amazing job our farmers do in protecting the countryside and growing high quality food," says Andrew Coker Head of Corporate Affairs, Europe North.
The Jealott's Hill farm also opened its gates to the public on Open Farm Sunday. Innes McEwen, Jealott's Hill Farm Manager, invited everyone to see what happens beyond the farm gate. Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a tractor ride, meet the animals and experience the farmland wildlife. "Along with farm walks, talks and demonstrations, they were also able to meet local groups who care for the countryside," says Innes. "For those who love machinery, there were also plenty of tractors and tools on show." The Syngenta Field Force also supported 15 other farms across the UK.
Last year 184,000 people visited farms on
Open Farm Sunday. "They met Britain's farmers, experienced real farming at first hand and enjoyed the great outdoors. Just as each farm is unique, each Open Farm Sunday event is unique," says Caroline Drummond, Chief Executive of LEAF.
