A revolutionary new herbicide from Syngenta hits the UK turf market this autumn.
There’s more great news for UK greenkeepers and golfers this autumn, as a revolutionary new herbicide from Syngenta hits the turf market.
‘Rescue’ is an entirely new class of selective herbicide chemistry for the turf sector, which will help to resolve the problem of invasive Ryegrass on playing surfaces. The clumpy nature of Ryegrass affects the consistency of golf greens and creates unsightly stalky patches on fairways. ‘Rescue’ can selectively target Ryegrass, leaving desirable Fescue and Bent grasses to grow.
The world’s first commercial supplies of ‘Rescue’ arrived in the UK in September and were delivered to St Andrews Links for use on the recently completed Castle Course. St Andrews Links Trust was actively involved with the successful registration trials for Rescue.
Gordon Moir, Director of Green keeping at the Trust: “Our experience from the trials is that we will now have an opportunity to effectively remove Ryegrass and other coarse grasses faster and more cost effectively, and without any disruption in play.”
“The interest we’ve received from the golf industry clearly highlights the desperate need for weed Ryegrass control to improve turf quality on greens and fairways,” says Simon Elsworth, Syngenta UK Turf Manager. “Discussion with course managers has also highlighted the beneficial potential for ‘Rescue’ to help create thinner, more manageable roughs, which will make finding your ball easier and speed up play.”
So even if you’re a rubbish golfer, ‘Rescue’ will be great news!
