Announced on April 21st (on Her Majesty’s birthday), the award recognises the increase in exports and the commercial success for the size of their UK based operations.
Bioline exports beneficial bugs all over the world, including predatory mites and parasitic wasps which are used to protect fruit, vegetable and flower crops from pests. “Our insect sales have more than doubled in the last three years, mainly from the explosion in the use of integrated control programs in countries such as Spain and Holland,” says Melvyn Fidgett (Bioline Head). “The team is absolutely thrilled by this fantastic recognition of what we’ve achieved.”
Competition for the Queen's Award is fierce and judging is thorough. Awards are made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions.
The Bioline site on the East Coast of England can now fly the special Queen’s Award flag which will be handed over by the Lord Lieutenant of Essex. The company is also invited to attend a reception at Buckingham Palace in July.
Melvyn: “This is a very exciting time for all the team and it shows what can be done when we all work together.”
