At Jealott’s Hill we place a particular emphasis on education across all age ranges, from primary school to degree level. We are happy for you to visit our site or to bring our site to you – both absolutely free of charge!
Your place
We have a group of education specialists always happy to help teach your class, free of charge. We teach all areas of biology, chemistry and environmental sciences, for all age groups, fitting closely with National Curriculum objectives where possible.
Though our most popular topics so far have been microbes, mini-beasts and plant growth, we always liase closely with the teacher to design lessons to suit the topics you want, ensuring maximum benefit in terms of learning and fun. Our educational specialists are also happy to bring along other employees that specialise in your chosen topic. We not only provide our own presentations and activities for the children, but also bring along plants, insects and materials to give children the full science experience. The number of schools visits we do is increasing every year; 65 in 2008, and in 2009, over 90! For older children and university students we are also happy to come in to talk about career options in science, and can offer a limited number of placements for work experience on site each year.
Our place
We are always keen for local schools to visit our site at Jealott's Hill to experience science they wouldn’t normally see in the classroom. These visits can be tailored to the specific needs of each group, following discussion with the class teacher. All groups are welcome to a tour of our glasshouses and labs on site. Last year we reached out to over 10,000 children and we hope that the total figure will be even higher this year. Examples of lesson plans you can expect from your Syngenta class visit are shown to the right of this page.
We are also happy to take visits from university students or individuals interested in pursuing a career in science. Find out more about our Graduate Training Programs.
