Syngenta on Ethanol

Ethanol is Here to Stay

Syngenta believes ethanol is an essential part of the energy equation. Ethanol is good for consumers, good for farmers, good for the environment and good for American energy independence. Ethanol, whether from corn or from other biomass sources, is an energy source for today and tomorrow.

Ethanol is Good for America

The U.S. ethanol industry has had a profoundly positive impact on the U. S. economy and on rural America. Corn ethanol has enlarged and strengthened the market for American grown corn. That has supported corn price levels and grower profitability. Ethanol producers have helped to support more than 490,000 jobs in the new "green economy." In 2008, it is estimated that the U.S. ethanol industry contributed more than $65 billion to U. S. GDP. Of this, approximately $20 billion went to household income, and federal, state and local tax revenues were increased by an additional $20 billion. Clearly ethanol is good for America. Most of these economic impacts occurred across the Corn Belt, in rural American, where the economic growth is vitally needed.
